10 Unposed Photos That Mean Everything to Me: A Photographer’s Look Back at My Own Family Adventures

As a documentary family photographer, I’m usually behind the lens—chasing moments, not perfection. As a mom of 3 lovely human beings I am also the one behind the lens. My aim in both situations is not to make a perfect frame, but to freeze a feeling. A season. A stage of childhood I know will pass faster than I want it to.

With three kids, our life is loud, messy, and full of motion—and that’s exactly what I try to capture when we travel or explore close to home. These ten photos aren’t posed. They weren’t planned. But they’re some of my favourite images I’ve ever taken. Because they tell the truth of who my kids were, and how deeply loved they’ve always been.

Each one is a little time capsule. And now that my kids are older, I find myself returning to them often—not to remember the places we went, but the people we were.

I take a lot of photos. But these are the ones that stop me in my tracks. Because they’re not just pictures—they’re proof. Of love. Of the wild, beautiful story we’re writing together, one unposed moment at a time.

If you’re a parent wondering whether the everyday moments matter… they do. You don’t need the perfect backdrop or clean clothes. You just need to notice. And sometimes, if you can, take the photo. Or if you want, hire me and I will take the photos.

Because one day, you’ll look back—and see just how much life was packed into the ordinary.
