A Nostalgic Reunion: The DeBoer Family Photoshoot at Harvie Passage, Calgary

There’s something truly special about reconnecting with past clients, especially when they were once a wedding couple I had the honor of photographing. Ten years ago, I captured Alanna and Nathans’s wedding in the beautiful landscapes of Kelowna. Fast forward a decade, and here we are again—this time, for a family photography session at Harvie Passage in Calgary.

It is always a joy catching up with past clients, and in this case I had also swam with Alanna and travelled a bit in Europe with her. Even though I follow her family on social media it was wonderful meeting her girls in real life and catching up after the past ten years. When we started discussing locations for their session, it was clear that a funky place along Calgarys river would be ideal. Harvie Passage is a spot they frequently bike through, making it the perfect backdrop for capturing authentic, joy-filled moments.

Harvie Passage is a new spot for me in Calgary, so if was fun to explore and I was really inspired by the location. The rushing Bow River, scenic pathways, and lush greenery provided a dynamic setting that reflected the DeBoer family’s adventurous spirit. The kids ran, played, and embraced the outdoors, making the session feel more like a fun family outing rather than a posed shoot.

The best family photos happen when everyone is relaxed and having fun, and that’s exactly what we achieved during this shoot. From candid laughter to quiet moments of connection, every shot reflected their family’s warmth and love. The kids’ playful energy and Alanna and Nathan’s deep bond made for an unforgettable session.

Being part of my clients’ milestones—from weddings to growing families—is what makes this job so fulfilling. It was an absolute joy to document this chapter in the DeBoers’ lives, and I can’t wait to see where life takes them next.
